Retirement is a new sound/performance collective featuring musicians Inga Margrete Aas, Jessie Marino, and the Oslo-based experimental trio Pinquins, Ane-Marthe Sørlien Holen, Sigrun Rogstad Gomnæs and Jennifer Torrence.
Ecstatic Looms
Weaving has remained largely unchanged throughout human history. The basic design is extremely simple: there are fibers which hold the tension (warp strings) and fibers which weave over and under the warp strings to create a visible woven pattern (weft). “Notation” is a vital part of the information needed to create a woven pattern such as a Twill or Houndstooth. Using the repetitive patterns of twills and other basic weaves, new rhythmic loops and timbral variations as prompts and guides for structured improvisations will emerge through an abstract process of sonic weaving.
